After the pruning work, usually carried out in January / February, and tying in March, the plant, following the climatic trend and the rise in temperatures, begins its budding activity.
This is the beginning of a new production cycle; small buds sprout out and blossom, bring out the first leaflets. The period is very delicate as large temperature variations between day and night, and above all sudden night frosts could frustrate the budding, drying up the newly born leaves and compromising all or part of the future harvest.
In our vineyard, being present various vines, each with different ripening times, we notice a substantial diversity in budding: if Sangiovese and Grechetto tend to be usually the first to sprout new shoots, Merlot and Trebbiano Spoletino are they wait a while, followed by Sauvignon, Marselan and Sagrantino.
