The planting of the vineyard is a unique and exciting event that decides the fate of a wine. Unfortunately only insiders can enjoy this show.
In fact, lovers of good wine only know the essence of a long, tiring job, all linked to the vagaries of time and seasons. A work that is also based on technique, experience and a relationship of deep empathy with the territory<\/em>.
So, do you know how a new vineyard is planted? Here is what we did with our Trebbiano Spoletino.<\/p>

To plant the barbatelle<\/a> (vine seedlings) the soil must be dry. The first condition to be respected is therefore to start work only when the day is sunny.
Just like Thursday 9 April, a hot day but not too hot, with the sky clouded at times, as if to give relief to those who were at work.
First of all, the ground should be well leveled. For this reason, someone drives a tractor that pulls a harrow, in this case my father Claudio.
Theharrow<\/a> it flattens the earth and uproots the small parasitic plants, which grow spontaneously and which could remove mineral substances at the vegetative restart of the vine just buried.<\/p>

As the soil is ready, a specialized team, led by our trusted agronomist, Renzo, starts one of the most delicate phases: the squad. The square defines the geometry with which the cuttings are to be arranged and the texture of the future vineyard. Attention must be paid to the utmost, because the irregularity of the rows ruins the aesthetics of the vineyard, and also makes routine maintenance operations long and difficult.
When the pegs are inserted, then the squaring is completed.<\/p>

At this point the cuttings to be planted must be prepared which must have roots no longer than 6 cm and no less than 3cm.
Then, a steel cable is stretched between the pegs that outlines the course of the row. As many colored ribbons are attached to the cable as there are vines that must make up the row, to be as precise as possible on the planting point. Finally, quick and precise hands handle the fork or a tool that facilitates the insertion of the plant into the ground.<\/p>

And if a gentle rain finally comes, as luckily it did, then the vines can begin their mineral relationship of aromas and flavors with the soil<\/em>.<\/p>
