The cuttings of Trebbiano Spoletino

The rooted vine is a plant, or rather a vine cutting of about a year old, which has put the beards and is ready to be buried.
The length of the cuttings ranges from a minimum of 40 up to a maximum of about 45 cm. The structure of the cuttings consists of an American rootstock resistant to fillossera (terrible insect that attacks the vine) of variable length from 30 to 40 cm including the roots, and from the actual graft (pruned shoot), from which, over time, the whole vine develops. To guarantee the quality of the vine, the cuttings can only be purchased from nurserymen - authorized and certified dealers. We bought them from VCR Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo, a company that has been engaged in viticulture research for eighty years, also obtaining the ISO 9001 certification.
That green wax that we see in the picture is simple paraffin and is applied for 20 cm starting from the graft to protect the cuttings from dehydration, caused by transport from one soil to another. The best period for planting cuttings is spring when the earth, warmed by the sun, is preparing to welcome a new fertile cycle of life.
The cuttings of Trebbiano Spoletino that we planted were stored in cardboard boxes at a controlled temperature, around 4 - 5 ° C to avoid vegetative growth before being buried.
Finally, Renzo (our trusted agronomist) explained to us that green wax also has the function of slowing down the blossoming of the buds, initially favoring the development of roots immediately after burying.
