A lot of time has passed since the last post on agronomic practices, in the meantime we talked about our New Year's emotions of ... Wine, Vinitaly and Spoleto Tipica, but finally it's time to put our vineyard back in hand. The operation in question is the arrangement of the wires, which is a practice that must be performed only after positioning all the poles, so let's see this particular operation in detail.
"Before placing the wires, all the reinforced concrete poles were inserted into the ground. (reinforced concrete) at the beginning and at the end of each row, called "capotesta", which act as a support for fixing the steel wires. Once this is done, steel cables are inserted into the ground near the heads (or capotesta), which by means of a cable (always in steel) are connected to the relative head, this to prevent the pole in reinforced concrete. straightens over time due to the stretching of the steel wires.
At this point we can proceed with the description of the arrangement of the wires, which can be schematized in three main phases:
FIRST PHASE: Unwinding of the wire and first anchoring
This initial phase consists in unrolling the coils of the steel wires with the aid of an impeller. In our case, Gabriele and Mauro thought of using an old rickety wheel, but which turned out to be brilliant, placing it on the tractor bucket at a useful height in order to facilitate the operation. While Mauro was checking the unwinding of the thread, Gabriele carried the end of the thread to the opposite end of the "row", anchoring it to the head.
SECOND PHASE: Inserting the wire into the hooks
This phase consists in arranging the wire in the hooks of each single pole that makes up the "row". Then, Gabriel during the return from the other end where he was, hooked the wire to the steel poles.
THIRD PHASE: Stringing of the wire and final anchoring.
The last phase is that of anchoring to the starting cap, i.e. the wire is cut off leaving a length necessary for the anchor itself, it is stretched and finally anchored by hand to the cap. Surely this particular operation is one of the most tiring.
The arrangement of the threads, along the same row, takes place on three levels, i.e. threads are arranged on three different heights. At the first height, the lowest one, only one wire is placed with a greater thickness than the others, with the function of supporting the spurred cordon of the screw once it has reached this height. The other two levels are used to control the foliage of the vines, each has two threads one on the right and the other on the left in order to guide the vegetation of the plants. "
At this point our Trebbiano Spoletino vineyard is almost completed, what remains is the arrangement of the canes that we will deal with later. Now events such as Umbria Wine Festival and Vini nel Mondo await us to make our project on Trebbiano Spoletino and Save The Last Grape known.
See you soon,
Francesco
