October 2010. The harvest has been over for a while, the must is turning into wine and we are all anxious to taste this year's new creation, the Rosé. In the meantime, since there is a little breathing room in the cellar, we went to the vineyard to fix the stakes.
The practice following the arrangement of the stakes is that of having to fix the latter to the first steel wire, on which the spurred cordons of the Trebbiano Spoletino vines will support once they are adult. The binding is very simple and consists in tying with two or three knots, at the point of contact, the stake to the first longitudinal steel wire by means of a green elastic wire, commonly used in fruit and vegetable crops. The precautions are to make sure that the knots are tight and that the guard post is in perfect verticality, this is because the vine must grow orthogonally to the ground level to which it is rooted.
For the moment there is nothing more to do in our Trebbiano Spoletino vineyard, we await the feast of San Martino and in the meantime we are dedicated to the olive harvest, as a new season of olive pressing is upon us!
